Polar-Coded Transmission over 7.8-km Terrestrial Free-Space Optical Links

Free-space optical (FSO) communications can offer high-capacity transmission owing to the properties of laser beams. However, performance degradation caused by atmospheric turbulence is an urgent issue. Recently, application polar codes, which provide capacity-achieving error-correcting with low computational cost for decoding, FSO has been studied. long-distance and real-field experiments have not conducted in these studies. To best our knowledge, this study first present experimental results polar-coded over 7.8-km links. Using data, we investigated codes channels, including their superiority regular low-density parity-check codes. We expect that will a path toward high-speed communication networks satellites.
